Andreas Martin Hofmeir

Andreas Martin Hofmeir loves to commute between different genres: he is professor at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, founded the popular Bavarian band LaBrassBanda, works as orchestra conductor and has received numerous awards both as a cabaret artist and as a musician, most recently the Bavarian State Prize for Music 2020 for his incomparably multifaceted artistic work.

Born in Munich, he found his way to the tuba at the age of twelve via piano, percussion and tenor horn and later studied with Dietrich Unkrodt (Berlin), Michael Lind (Stockholm) and Jens Björn-Larsen (Hanover). Hofmeir won the prestigious “Città di Porcia” International Tuba Competition in Pordenone (Italy), the prize of Deutscher Musikwettbewerb in Berlin and the ECHO Klassik as “Instrumentalist of the Year 2013”, the latter as the first tuba player in the history of the competitions.
